Holly Holm vs. Megan Anderson targeted for UFC 225

Holly Holm vs. Megan Anderson targeted for UFC 225

Holly Holm is set to face Megan Anderson at UFC 225 in the first non-title women’s featherweight bout. The women’s featherweight division may have it’s first non-title fight as former bantamweight champion Holly Holm is rumoured to face UFC debutant Megan Anderson.

The first non-title women’s featherweight bout in UFC history will take place at UFC 225, and it features former champ Holly Holmagainst Megan Anderson.
ChicagoTribune.com reported the matchup between Holm (11-4 MMA, 4-4 UFC) and Anderson (8-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC).

Phil Thompson of the Chicago Tribune first reported the matchup on Wednesday. UFC officials are yet to confirm the fight which will take place at UFC 225 in Chicago on June 9th.
Since her historic win over Ronda Rousey at UFC 193 in November 2015, Holm (11-4) has four defeats in her last five fights. “The Preacher’s Daughter” last fought at UFC 219 in December 2017, missing out on featherweight gold when she lost a unanimous decision to Cris Cyborg.
Anderson (8-2) was supposed to make her UFC debut against Cyborg in July 2017. The Australian pulled out of the fight in late June for personal reasons, and Tonya Evinger instead faced Cyborg on the UFC 214 card. The former Invicta FC featherweight champion has rebounded from a submission loss to Cindy Dandois by finishing all of her last four opponents.
UFC 225 will take place at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois on June 9th. A rematch between UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker and Yoel Romero will headline the card, whilst a interim welterweight title fight between Rafael Dos Anjos and Colby Covingtonwill serve as the co-main event.

Overeem vs Blaydes official for UFC 225 in Chicago

UFC heavyweight Curtis Blaydes wanted big fights and a bigger contract. He’s got the former for sure. Curtis Blaydes (#5 HW) asked for the Reem (#2 HW) after his win over Mark Hunt (#6) in UFC 221, and seems like it's happening. Probably in UFC 225, Chicago.

The promotion today announced Blaydes (10-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) will meet multi-promotion champ Alistair Overeem (43-16 MMA, 8-5 UFC) at UFC 225, which takes place June 9 at United Center in Chicago.
Although the official bout order has not been announced, it’s a near certainty the two will meet on the pay-per-view main card following prelims on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass.
Blaydes was last seen in the octagon this past month at UFC 221, where he earned the biggest win of his career to date with a unanimous decision over veteran slugger Mark Hunt (13-12-1 MMA, 8-6-1 UFC). It was his fourth win in five appearances (a TKO over Adam Milstead was overturned due to a positive drug test for marijuana).
With the addition, the latest UFC 225 lineup includes:
  • Carla Esparza vs. Claudia Gadelha
  • Joseph Benavidez vs. Sergio Pettis
  • Rashad Coulter vs. Allen Crowder
  • Curtis Blaydes vs. Alistair Overeem

CM Punk and Mike Jackson on the UFC 225

CM Punk and Mike Jackson on the UFC 225 :  It took two minutes and 14 seconds for Mickey Gall to derail the hype train which probably shouldn’t have existed for someone that hadn’t fought as an amateur, let alone a professional.

To his credit, though, Punk has continued honing his craft with his team recently claiming that he’s 200% better than what we all saw in his debut. With Punk being proud of where he comes from, it came as no surprise that UFC president Dana White came through on his promise and officially announced that Punk’s second fight in the organisation will take place against Mike Jackson at UFC 225 in Chicago, Illinois on June 9.
The event, like UFC 226 after it, is shaping up to be a brilliant card.

Robert Whittaker defends the middleweight championship in a rematch against Yoel Romero, Holly Holm is back in action against Megan Anderson, the interim welterweight title fight is one that is drawing plenty of excitement with Rafael dos Anjos going up against Colby Covington while Overeem vs. Curtis Blaydes is one that can impact the heavyweight rankings.
So, it’s going to be a great night and with so many excellent fights taking place. However, the majority of UFC fans have been venting their frustration and annoyance on social media when it was revealed that CM Punk had made the official poster, with the likes of Holm and Anderson being snubbed.

Rafael Dos Anjos Says Title Fight Moved To UFC 225 After Conor McGregor Bus Attack

Rafael Dos Anjos is facing Colby Covington for the vacant UFC Interim Welterweight Title at UFC 225 instead of at the originally reported UFC 224 event, but RDA believes the change was made due to the bus attack.

There has been no word given by the UFC about the potential change in location for the bout, which was never officially announced for UFC 224.

RDA does wish the bout would’ve taken place in Brazil because he feels winning the belt there could have made for a good story.

“To have this fight in Rio would be a good story, especially getting the belt there, it would be really cool,” Dos Anjos said. “But, I think, the one thing, Rio, it’s not Sao Paulo. The crowds in Sao Paulo, it’s different than the crowds in Rio. Rio people are more savage.”

UFC 225 takes place on Saturday, June 9 from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois with Robert Whittaker and Yoel Romero headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.

Who else is fighting at UFC 225

This card is stacked. Big time.
The co-main event sees Rafael dos Anjos square off against Colby Covington for the interim welterweight title, while former bantamweight champion Holly Holm fights Australia's Megan Anderson in a featherweight bout.

But even the prelims have some bangers.
Joseph Benavidez fights Sergio Pettis, Claudia Gadelha takes on Carla Esparza and Australian favourite Tai Tuivasa gets the chance to prove himself against former champion Andrei Arlovski.
Rashad Evans is still going around and will fight Anthony Smith, while Ricardo Lamas fights Mirsad Bektic at the top of the Fight Pass prelims.
Getting the night started is Mike Santiago's bout with Dan Inge before Rashad Coulter fights Allen Crowder.
For those playing along at home, there are six current or former UFC champions on the card, with Whittaker, Dos Anjos, Holm, Esparza, Arlovski and Evans.

What are Whittaker and Romero fighting for?

Whittaker and Romero will be throwing down for the UFC middleweight title.
The weight class has a limit of 185-pounds, which is 83.91kg.

Robert Whittaker's record

Whittaker is 10-2 in the UFC, and 19-4 as a professional.
The Aussie has the longest active win streak in the middleweight division with seven. He is unbeaten at 185-pounds since moving up from welterweight in 2014.

Yoel Romero's record

Romero is 9-1 in the UFC and is 13-2 in MMA as a professional. Prior to taking up MMA full time, Romero had years of experience as a high level wrestler.

When was Robert Whittaker's last loss?

Whittaker's last loss was a first round TKO defeat to Stephen 'Wonderboy' Thompson at UFC 170 in February 2014. Whittaker was still fighting at welterweight at the time, severely draining his body to make the 170-pound limit. Thompson went on to fight for the 170-pound title twice.

When was Romero's last loss?

Funny you ask...Romero's last defeat was to Whittaker at UFC 213 last July.

After winning the first two rounds, Romero couldn't keep up the pace, with Whittaker storming back to claim the final three frames and earn a unanimous decision win.
