According to a report from Walter Salcido, Guida will fight Bobby Green at UFC 225 in Chicago on June 9th. UFC officials have not announced the matchup yet.
Guida (34-17) has been on the UFC roster for a dozen years, and he’s currently on his first winning streak since 2010-2011. “The Carpenter” dominated Erik Koch on his way to a unanimous decision victory last June, then scored a first-round TKO vs. Joe Lauzon in just 67 seconds at last November’s UFC Norfolk. It was Guida’s first stoppage win since choking out Japanese legend Takanori Gomi in 2011, and his first TKO finish since beating Samy Schiavo in 2008.
Green (24-8-1) ended a four-fight stretch without a win by also getting a unanimous decision verdict vs. Koch back at UFC on FOX 27 in January. He was scheduled to fight Beneil Dariush at UFC 222, but withdrew due to injury, something that has plagued him throughout his career. Green memorably began his UFC career 4-0, including an upset win over Josh Thomson on short notice, but then lost three straight to Edson Barboza, Dustin Poirier, and Rashid Magomedov. The 31-year-old also fought to a draw vs. Lando Vannata in a thrilling fight that earned both men $50,000 bonus checks.
UFC 225 features a pair of title fights, with middleweight champion Robert Whittaker once again taking on Yoel Romero in the main event, while Rafael dos Anjos and Colby Covington vie for the interim welterweight belt in the co-main event.
